We all use excel. Windows Excel if you know what you are doing or Macintosh Excel if you’re an Apple head. Either way, it comes as no surprise that many charts end up being visualized as “tables” since that’s often how the data is originally delievered. Sometimes, a table is the best way to convey information. Other times, it’s just a dressed up excel document.
Our news section had a graphic scheduled to go to press on Wednesday. Tuesday night it was clear that in it’s current form the original chart lacked cohesion between it’s editorial content and design.
Three hours later, the page completely transformed. Maybe it’s not the smartest graphic but I like it. I’d read it. I think it’s important to accept when something isn’t working and to start over rather than forcing something to work when it doesn’t.
